CONCERNED KOGI CITIZENS CONDEMN DINO MELAYE’S CONDUCT, DESCRIBE HIM AS UNFIT FOR PUBLIC OFFICE

By Comrade Falade Akinlade

The Concerned Kogi Citizens, Abuja chapter, have expressed deep disappointment over what they describe as the continuous unruly behaviour of former Senator Dino Melaye, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, the group alleged that Senator Melaye’s public conduct “falls far below the standard expected of anyone who has passed through the four walls of a university, let alone someone trained in law.”

According to the group, Senator Melaye’s “pattern of behaviour over the years” portrays him, in their opinion, as a political actor lacking decorum, self-restraint and the temperament required for responsible leadership.

They further described what they called Melaye’s “public theatrics, repeated outbursts, and confrontational style” as embarrassing, arguing that these qualities made his tenure in the Senate “agonizing and unproductive for the people of Kogi West.”

The group alleged that Melaye’s conduct is “unbefitting of a holder of public office,” comparing his actions to those of “street-level agitators rather than a refined statesman.” They recalled incidents during his time in the House of Representatives where he was involved in physical altercations that led to his suspension from the Green Chamber.

The statement also referenced widely publicised domestic controversies involving the former senator, which the group claims “raised serious concerns about his temperament and respect for women.” They accused Melaye of displaying “a consistent pattern of hostility, verbal aggression, and disrespect,” including towards senior colleagues and prominent national figures.

The group cited an incident involving former First Lady and Senator, Dr. Oluremi Tinubu, alleging that Melaye used “unparliamentary and disrespectful language” during a disagreement on the Senate floor—an action they say would have attracted disciplinary measures but for political protection at the time.

According to the Concerned Kogi Citizens, Melaye’s “abrasive approach during committee engagements and public hearings” often resulted in confrontations with colleagues, heads of government agencies, and other stakeholders.

They argued that the volume of incidents associated with the former senator suggests “a troubling behavioural pattern incompatible with the expectations of a public servant.”

The statement concludes by urging relevant authorities and societal leaders to “intervene appropriately,” insisting that Senator Melaye “lacks the disposition required for high public responsibility.”

“Our position is clear,” the group stated. “Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct, as consistently exhibited over the years, does not reflect the values of responsible leadership, maturity, or public decency expected of someone who seeks to speak for our people.”
