Funtua Unity Foundation Chairman Expresses Worry Over VC’s Exit, Praises Governor’s Intervention

Funtua Unity Foundation Chairman Raises Alarm Over VC’s Resignation, Commends Governor Radda

Funtua, Katsina State — December 13, 2025

The Chairman of the Funtua Unity Foundation, Comrade Mannir Mohammed Sulaiman, has expressed concern over the recent resignation of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences, Funtua, describing the development as worrisome and a poor beginning for the newly established institution.

Speaking on the issue, Comrade Mannir said it was unsettling for a top-ranking official to resign even before assuming office, noting that such a move could negatively affect the stability and public perception of the university at its formative stage.

He explained that although the outgoing Vice-Chancellor cited political reasons for his resignation, he did not consider such reasons sufficient to justify stepping down from the appointment.

The chairman warned labour unions and non-governmental organisations in Funtua against interfering in the affairs of the university, stressing the need to allow the university community to manage its academic and administrative responsibilities without undue interference.

According to him, the leakage and spread of unauthorised or privileged information could compromise the activities of the institution and disrupt its smooth operations.

Comrade Mannir further emphasised that the presence of the university in Funtua cannot be over-emphasised, particularly in terms of economic development and educational advancement. He called for maturity, restraint, and decorum in handling sensitive issues relating to the institution.

He also commended all stakeholders who contributed to the establishment of the university and urged sustained support to ensure its success and long-term sustainability for the benefit of future generations.

Meanwhile, the chairman commended the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, CON, for injecting over two billion naira into the development of the university, describing the intervention as a timely and commendable effort to strengthen the institution’s infrastructure and academic capacity.
