Katsina Pension DG Clarifies Contributory Pension Scheme

Katsina Pension DG Explains Contributory Pension Scheme

Katsina — December 15, 2025

The Director General of the Katsina State Pension Board, Alhaji Nuradeen Audi, has provided detailed clarification on the state’s pension scheme, describing it as a critical system designed to improve the welfare of serving civil servants and retirees.

Speaking during an interview, Alhaji Audi explained that pension administration in Katsina State is guided by the regulations of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), which oversees pension operations nationwide to ensure transparency, accountability, and the protection of workers’ rights after retirement.

He stated that Katsina State currently operates two pension structures: the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) and the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), both in line with national pension regulations.

According to him, under the Contributory Pension Scheme, 7 percent is deducted from an employee’s monthly salary, while the state government contributes 13 percent, bringing the total pension contribution to 20 percent. These funds are set aside to cover gratuity and monthly pension payments upon retirement.

The Director General emphasized that pension contributions belong solely to the employees and not the government. He noted that workers who exit service after less than five years are entitled to a full refund of their accumulated contributions, as the scheme operates in a manner similar to a savings system.

Alhaji Audi further explained that employees with several years remaining before retirement would not experience any adverse changes to their pension benefits, as they remain fully covered under the Contributory Pension Scheme with continuous contributions from both the employee and the government.

He also disclosed that plans are underway to domesticate the pension framework into law in Katsina State to further strengthen transparency, equity, and the long-term welfare of retirees.

Commending the administration of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, the Pension Board boss said the state government remains committed to implementing pension reforms aimed at safeguarding the interests of workers and retirees.

Alhaji Audi made the remarks during a courtesy visit by Reality News TV to his office in Katsina.
